Expert in Implant dental
Dr. Komarnyckyj has been placing dental implants to replace missing teeth since in 1987. He not only stays abreast of the most advanced techniques in his field by participating in continuing education classes and conferences, but is also a co-founder of the Implant Prosthetic Study Group and is a local facilitator for the Spear Study Club. Additionally, Dr. Komarnyckyj is a frequent lecturer on dental implant placement and the connection between oral and general health.
Along with two fellow medical/dental professionals, Dr. Komarnyckyj was featured on Channel 3 for the life changing treatment they performed for a young woman with significant dental deterioration and complex dental needs. Elena is just one example of the comprehensive care Dr. Komarnyckyj provides.
Replacing a Missing Tooth
A natural tooth is anchored into the jawbone by its tooth root. Tooth roots attach firmly to the jawbone and keep your teeth stable when chewing solid foods.
Before the introduction of implants, the traditional treatment for replacing teeth was the use of bridges. The healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth would be cut down and the area would be treated with a three-crown âbridge.â
Dental implants are the modern alternative. Instead of cutting down two perfectly healthy teeth, Dr. Komarnyckyj inserts a dental implant into the jawbone to replace your missing tooth root. This implant becomes solidly fixed into your jaw (somewhat like a natural tooth root). Your general dentist then places a crown onto this dental implant. The result is a new tooth that looks, feels, and functions like your natural teeth.
Quite simply, dental implants are the most natural replacement for missing teeth.

Replacing Several Missing Teeth
Traditionally, several missing teeth would have been replaced with a removable partial or full denture. Dentures have to be taken out and soaked at night. During the day, they can also look unnatural and rub painfully. Dentures and partials make it difficult or impossible to eat certain foods.
Dental implants can now be used to anchor partial and full dentures. This prevents the slipping, irritation, and pain associated with âfloatingâ partials and dentures. It also prevents the tedious removal of dentures for overnight soaking and cleaning. Dental implants also eliminate the need for dental adhesives. This allows you to enjoy eating the foods you previously avoided. With dental implants, your partials or dentures are firmly anchored to the jawbone, causing them to feel much more like natural teeth.
Natural tooth roots and dental implants are fixed firmly in your jawbone. When you chew, these tooth roots and implants stimulate the jawbone and prevent it from shrinking. You may have seen a person who looked prematurely old because their jawbone had shrunk after wearing floating dentures. Dental implants help preserve your jawbone and appearance.
The Success Rate of Implant dental
After their healing period, the success rate of dental implants is between 94% and 98%. If you are a non-smoker with good oral hygiene, the percentage is closer to 98%.
Does the Procedure Hurt?
The discomfort involved with receiving a dental implant is similar to that of having a cavity filled. The procedure is most often performed under local anesthesia and patients generally experience little discomfort after the procedure. Some patients prefer to receive additional sedation and we offer a variety of solutions to make your experience in our office a comfortable one.
How Long Will Implant dental Last?
The current design of the implants Dr. Komarnyckyj uses have lasted more than 30 years. With good oral hygiene and regular cleanings, dental implants should last a lifetime. In contrast, the average life span of a traditional fixed bridge is between 10-15 years.
Bone Regeneration
A critical question in determining whether an implant can be placed is, âIs there enough bone to support the implant?â Fortunately, smaller diameter implants and advanced bone regeneration techniques now make it possible to place implants in areas that could not be treated in the past.
Am I a Candidate for Implant dental?
After performing an comprehensive examintaion, Dr. Komarnyckyj will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. Many of our implant patients are surprised to learn that this is a viable treatment option for them, as they had been told otherwise in the past. We urge you to contact our office for a free, no obligation examination to learn about the implant treatment available for you.
